TABERNAE

The tabernae were commercial establishments located in dependencies of the Roman houses that were opened towards the street, and that generally did not have access to the main house.
They could have one or two plants, being used the superior plant like house of the owner of the tavern or warehouse.
The most frequent uses of the tabernae were:
-Bakery, with oven, and even some with manual action mill.
-Laundry (fullonica).
-Office of drinks and hot meals (thermopolium).
-Shoe store and coffered ceiling of bone and ivory.
-Looms for the manufacture of clothes.
