IMPLUVIUM

It is a kind of rectangular pond with a flat bottom, designed to collect rainwater that was in the hall of the domus of the Romans. In the impluvium the rainwater that entered the domus came out through the compluvium (a central opening in the roof) through which the sunlight entered that illuminated all the adjacent rooms.
